I live right next door to Unit 39, and I spend my spare time in its backcountry. Because these mountains are right in my backyard, I don’t just visit them when the season opens in the fall—I am out there all year long.

Whether I'm hunting, taking the boat out, hiking new trails, or exploring the dirt roads with my kids, my eyes are constantly on the hills and peaks. I keep a set of binos in my truck, monitoring access points, tracking vegetation changes, and verifying road conditions while other hunters are stuck looking at flat 2D map screens a thousand miles away.

My hunting partners will tell you that I move slow on the mountain. They aren't wrong. I am a highly methodical hunter who firmly believes that the best intel isn't discovered at 4 MPH.

My Philosophy: Real success is found by sitting still, glassing the "un-glassable" pockets of cover, and understanding that every single ridge has a story to tell.

While the younger guys are busy burning boots and hiking past game, my methodical pace is what allows me to spot the elk first. I look at a drainage analytically, picking apart the terrain to find the exact security cover and water sources that big bulls use to hide from the heavy Unit 39 hunting pressure.
